Advancing Your Brand’s Sustainability Journey with Responsible Partners

As active apparel brand and retailer leaders seek more effective ways to reach their sustainability goals, many are looking within their own supply chains. For example, Patagonia has a goal of becoming carbon neutral across its supply chain by 2025, using only recycled or renewable materials in all its products. Understanding the environmental consequences of the materials used in all elements of your apparel calls for full transparency of your brand’s supply chain.

Fewer than 25% of leading apparel brands met their sustainability goals for recyclable, reusable, or compostable plastic packaging by 2020.

Just as the choice of textiles for your garments is critical to your sustainability journey, are you examining other aspects of your brand for waste reduction and environmental stewardship opportunities?

Consider the possibilities within your supply chain. For example, what if one small plastic tagging fastener could help you reach your goals? It might surprise you to know that out of the 80 billion garments produced each year, 90% have a single-use plastic fastener.

Switching to recycled or biodegradable* fasteners can make a significant difference in helping you meet your corporate sustainability goals for a fraction of a cent per garment.

Collaboration is Key in Reaching Sustainability

Avery Dennison recognized the growing needs – and challenges – of our customers to meet their sustainability goals. Supplier shortages and high costs can make it difficult to make a meaningful dent. That is why we focused on providing a cost-effective solution with dozens of options.

Ecotach™ recycled fasteners were tested and then accredited by SCS Global Services, an international third-party leader for environmental, sustainability, and quality performance certification. When your brand uses Ecotach™ fasteners on its apparel, the certification transfers to your brand, allowing you to promote the post-consumer waste claims.

Reducing Your Environmental Footprint with Recycled and Biodegradable Fasteners

Avery Dennison developed Ecotach™ recycled and biodegradable* fasteners to help environmentally conscious apparel retailers and brand owners reduce their environmental footprint with quality and cost efficiency in mind. The three types of fasteners, each offering an assortment of options, reduce waste and boost sustainability:

  • Ecotach™ rPET fasteners contain at least 90% post-consumer waste from recycled water bottles. Each case of the fasteners reduces waste by more than 528 plastic bottles.

  • Ecotach™ rPA fasteners use at least 70% post-consumer waste from recycled carpets. Each master carton eliminates 60 square feet of nylon carpet.

Ecotach™ fasteners offer similar functionality as those made with virgin materials, and they won’t change the quality of a garment. Recycled (rPET) fasteners have a “recycled” logo molded right onto the paddle, creating a universally recognizable symbol of your brand’s commitment to sustainability.

Small, Affordable Changes Will Help You Achieve Sustainability Goals
